Giving Tuesday

Today is Giving Tuesday. What does that mean to you? To me, it is an opportunity for me to donate to causes that need help or support for a variety of reasons. I am a giver, always have been. When I received the proceeds from my fundraiser this year, I donated a in portion of it to three other nonprofits. I believe it’s important to support and help others. The rescue currently has 25 horses, all are sanctuary, except for one who is currently in training. The average cost to feed and maintain one of our sanctuary residents is approximately $475 a month. Some of the older horses are as high as $600 with medications and supplements. The rescue is currently spending about $8,000 a month to properly take care of these horses. If you find it in your heart to donate, please do. You can send a check or pay online at https://donate.fallenoak.org. We also have PayPal. All donations are tax deductible. The horses and I thank you, be blessed.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm feeling incredibly thankful today. As I cleaned Jewel and Cowboy's paddock, I stopped to think of all the horses in their 30s in the rescue. Cowboy is our oldest now, almost 33 with only 17 teeth. It takes a lot of time and money to take care of the special needs sanctuary horses. They range in age as young as 12 and as old as 32. While cleaning the paddock, I was reminded as I looked at my ponies how blessed I was again this year by Mare Fair. I know we are all more thankful during the week of Thanksgiving. But my friends, I have been incredibly thankful and blessed so much these past 15 months, all because a group of people wanted to help my rescue. The horses and I will forever be grateful for the day that two strangers showed up, who I now call friends, and along with an amazing group of people who generously blessed all the horses of Fallen Oak. We forever thank you️! The 25 horses that make up the rescue wish all of you a wonderful holiday. We are so thankful for our incredible three foster homes, our weekly volunteers, Julianne - who rents the rescue 32 acres of her beautiful farm, Kymberly - who feeds the rescue horses every morning and when I’m out of town, Kevin - my awesome farmhand - who is here at least once a week, all of my MLP friends who donate so generously along with all my other donors, all the folks that have adopted horses from the rescue these past four and a half years, and my daughter Trinity - who does all the daily chores with me at both farms. I am so thankful this is my life, for I know it is my calling, and it is something that will continue because of ALL of you. Be blessed today and everyday.

Goodbye, Montana

It's a very sad night tonight at the rescue. Our oldest horse here, sweet Montana, went to heaven. I was blessed to have this sweet girl for almost three years. Montana came in January 2022 and was a bag of bones. She was discarded when she could not get pregnant again. It was my pleasure to rehab and love this sweet girl for three of her 33 years. Until we meet again, my sweet girl. Thanks to Dr. Knowles for coming out tonight and helping me make the decision to let her go. Run free, you will be so missed.

Goodbye, Lucy

Today is a very sad day. I came out to feed early this morning, and our sweet Lucy was gone. She was 30 years old. I had the pleasure of loving this sweet girl for almost two years. At 7:30 PM she was fine and was gone within 12 hours. Her buddy Cowboy sure is missing her. I'm putting one of my older mares who recently went blind in with him tonight. Lucy came so far from a bag of bones to looking fabulous, I guess it was just her time. Run free, sweet girl. I’ll take care of Derby for you. She was his mama. Tell Earl I sure do miss him.

Name This New Horse

We have a couple new horses in the rescue, and I’m gonna be doing something a little bit different for them. Fallen Oak came together with three other rescues to assist on 15 horses needing to be placed, due to an owner surrender situation. I have received two of those horses. I was going to give everyone an opportunity to get a chance to name the new horses. They are both mares. The first girl is an 11-year-old Pasofino. She has a halter on, but will not allow us to get very close. She is so pretty. This sweet girl came in with only a Coggins and is currently in quarantine in my round pen. She will need to have her teeth done, her feet done, be power packed, and receive all of her vaccines. She will need lots of Triple Crown Senior, alfalfa, maxi glow and soaked cubes to put her weight back on. This beauty is only 11 years old. Once she is gentle and completely rehabbed, she will be available for adoption. I thought it would be a good idea to allow people to give input on her name, as we have not chosen one for her yet. For every $10 that you donate, you get a chance in the hat to choose her name. If you donate $50, that’s five chances. $100, that’s 10. There is a spot on Zeffy where you can list the horse's name selection. If you would like to PayPal or Venmo, you can also list it that way. If you want to send a check, that’s good also. I’m going to keep this running for 10 days and choose her name on the 30th. I’m excited to see what you guys come up with. Also, if anyone is interested in her, please reach out to me and I can put you on the list. Thank you so much for all that you do! Let’s get this sweet girl a really good name. You can donate here: https://donate.fallenoak.org/

Honey Completely Rehabbed

Days like today remind me of why I love what I do, and that there is always hope. If you recall, Honey came to us on July 7. I have posted her progress on Facebook over the past couple months. This beautiful mare is now completely rehabbed and came back to the farm on Sunday! I am so excited to show this transformation. This was all done by feeding her Triple Crown Senior Maxi Glow Tifton and alfalfa hay twice a day. I am in awe of how she picked this weight up so quickly and I am saddened that she ever got into the shape that she was to begin with. So today is a great day, a day that I celebrate rehabilitation - a reminder to me to keep doing what I know I’m called to do. Welcome home, Honey! You will spend the rest of your days in your own retirement pasture with two other sanctuary horses, which hopefully will be a very long time, since you are only 22. Words cannot express my gratitude to my foster, Bridgette. I am eternally grateful, as I know Honey is. Also, it takes a village.

2Bits's Adoption

I wanted to let everyone know that 2Bits the Mustang was adopted. There was a great deal of people interested in this sweet boy. After careful consideration, he was placed at a wonderful farm to be a lesson horse for kids. It was 2Bits's prior owner's wish that he would become a lesson horse and it came to fruition. I am so thankful for Brittany and her team! I can’t wait to see how this guy flourishes. Congrats!

Welcome Back, Cody

Beautiful people, I would like to introduce Cody. Several years ago, Cody was adopted and was used at a horse camp. The kids loved him, however he developed moon blindness and has lost vision in his right eye. I gladly welcomed this 22 year old palomino Rocky Mountain horse back into the rescue. He has been granted sanctuary and will live here at the farm the rest of the days. Cody is such a sweet boy! I’m happy to have him back.

A Horse with an Attitude

Hi, ya’ll! I wanted to introduce you to one of our newest residents. Give a warm welcome to Shear Attitude, AKA Atty. This lovely OTTB mare has had a lot of babies and several of them have done very well. Atty raced 12 times and then became a broodmare. Her prior owner could no longer afford to take care of her. Atty is a very sweet girl! She’s a bit underweight, but we will fix that. She will live out her days here at Fallen Oak as a sanctuary horse. Welcome to the farm, sweet girl.

Goodbye, Hunter

I received some sad news. Our sweet Hunter passed away. Hunter was the first horse I have ever been able to adopt out that had a serious health issue. Hunter's cancer spread and he began losing a ton of weight, so the decision to let him go was made. Thanks so much to Georgia for loving him in his last year of life and taking such good care of him. Run free, sweet boy.

Three New Rescue Horses in Need of Help!

Three new horses have recently arrived at the rescue: Honey, Major and Dusty! Honey had first been rescued three and a half years ago, but through a series of unfortunate events, kept bouncing around between owners that were neglecting to take proper care of her. Eventually, she wound up back in our care. Despite bounding from home to home, she’s kept her sweet, lovely demeanor. Honey will be able to be sponsored in the future, once we know the extent of her medical needs. Major and Dusty both come from the same place, ex-reining horses that also took part in horse shows and worked with cattle, whose owners tragically passed away. The people that inherited them sadly could not provide proper care, and asked for us to take them in. Major is a very kind horse that greatly enjoys the company of people. He’s not as energetic as he used to be, but he’s also a little thin. With some tender love and care, he may gain some of his energy back! Dusty is also very kind, a laid back and relaxed horse. Both of them are up for sponsorship at $440 a month, per horse, to make sure their medical costs are covered. Due to the severity of their condition, it will take considerable amounts of time, love, and care to nurse them back to health. Any donations that you can spare will be a huge aid towards their recovery so these horses in need can get the life they deserve with us at the sanctuary, where they will live out their days. https://donate.fallenoak.org/

Semi's Adoption

Semi has been adopted! Semi came to us last summer and was first adopted out in September but, sadly, he was having some riding issues and didn't work out with his adopter. At some point in Semi's life he had some trauma that causes him to become terrified and shake while being ridden in certain situations. As a result, he came back to the rescue on March 7th. Despite his issues with riding, he is a lovely horse with excellent ground manners. So we decided that it was time for Semi to just be a horse and hang out with friends as a companion horse. Months later, the wonderful people at Rainbows Edge Equine Transition Center reached out to us about a lady who was looking for a companion horse. Kim swiftly reached out and invited her and her husband to come visit the rescue and as soon as the couple met Semi they were enthralled with him! Semi now lives in Gainesville Florida on a beautiful farm with his new best friend, Phoenix. We are so thankful for Gloria and her husband for providing Semi with a loving home!
